Major Crackdown! Punjab Vigilance Bureau Nabs 18 in 14 Bribery Cases

Chandigarh, March 19

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, in its continued crackdown on corruption, apprehended 17 government officials and one private individual while they were accepting bribes in 14 separate trap operations throughout February.

Announcing this today, an official spokesperson for the state Vigilance Bureau stated that the VB has made its strongest efforts to eliminate corruption among public servants and others across all sectors during this period.

The spokesperson further informed that the Bureau submitted charge sheets (challans) in 26 vigilance cases to the relevant courts last month. Additionally, 3 vigilance inquiries were initiated to thoroughly investigate corruption allegations. He noted that 9 criminal cases were registered against 35 accused persons, including 11 government employees.

Providing more details, he added that various competent courts decided four bribery cases filed and prosecuted by the Bureau during the month. In these cases, four individuals were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment ranging from three and a half years to four years, along with fines ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000.
