In a major blow to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of the Tarn Taran by-election, sitting Akali Sarpanch Jashandeep Singh along with his supporters officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday.
Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, in the presence of Working President Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi, Sarwan Singh Dhun, and State General Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat, formally inducted Jashandeep Singh and his team into AAP and extended a warm welcome. The new members include:
- Panch Avtar Singh
- Panch Davinder Singh
- Panch Pargat Singh
- Panch Darshan Singh
- Panch Narinder Pal Kaur
- Panch Baljit Kaur
- Kanwar Jagdeep Singh Lada (Chhichhrewal)
Minister Bhullar assured all new leaders that they would be given due respect and responsibility within the party.
Taking a sharp dig at opposition parties, Bhullar said:
“Akali Dal, Congress, and BJP indulge in politics of words, while AAP believes in the politics of work.”

He highlighted AAP’s achievements:
- 82% households now receive zero electricity bills due to the 600-unit free power guarantee
- Over 881 Mohalla Clinics operational, providing free medicines, treatment, and tests
- More than 56,000 youth given government jobs strictly on merit
General Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat pointed out:
“Under previous governments, only 21% of farmland received canal water. Now, over 65% does — raising groundwater levels by 15 to 20 feet.”
He added:
“Within the next year, canal water will reach every single acre.”
AAP leaders made a strong appeal to the people of Tarn Taran Assembly constituency:
“Treat this election not just as a contest for one candidate, but as a vote for your future. Elect Harmeet Singh Sandhu with a huge margin and strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann.”
