A significant upheaval rocked the Gymkhana Club’s politics today as the club’s current secretary, Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Boparai, joint secretary Vinod Sharma, Radhe Shyam Goel, Deepak Dakala, and other members announced during a press conference that the two major groups within the club are no longer united. Dr. Sukhi and Vinod Sharma revealed that the tenure of all current directors ends on September 30, and as per company law, elections should be held by that date. However, the current president, Deepak Kammpani, and the Progressive Group, led by Dr. Manmohan Singh, have pushed for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) by passing an agenda to conduct elections for only four positions. This move has been labeled as completely wrong and a violation of democratic principles.

They further stated that the Progressive Group attempted to unlawfully remove the club’s current chartered accountant, Ashok Goel, and his associates without following proper legal procedures. A resolution to remove the chartered accountant, sent to the Regional Director in New Delhi, was never passed in any meeting of the executive committee. They emphasized that 90% of the club’s members support holding democratic elections for all 12 club positions and are strongly opposed to elections for fewer posts.
Dr. Sukhi added that while he and Vinod Sharma were abroad, certain new projects were initiated without EGM approval, leading to unnecessary expenditure. For instance, a new box cricket project was started by uprooting the golf course’s green patch without the approval of some directors, causing significant resentment among club members.
Present at the press conference were Naresh Pathak, Dr. B.L. Bhardwaj, Advocate Karmjeet Singh, Gurwinder Singh Virk, Harbhajan Singh, Sarvdeep Singh Shalu, Abdul Wahid, and other members.
