Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Punjab today to assess the damage caused by recent floods, announced a significant relief package of ₹1600 crore to aid the state’s recovery efforts. Additionally, he declared financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the floods and ₹50,000 for individuals who sustained serious injuries.
The Prime Minister also announced comprehensive support under the PM CARES for Children scheme for children orphaned due to floods and landslides. Emphasizing a multi-dimensional approach to aid the region’s recovery, he outlined measures including the reconstruction of homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, repair of national highways, rebuilding of schools, provision of relief through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, and distribution of mini kits for livestock.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Punjab, followed by a visit to Gurdaspur, where he met with affected farmers and interacted with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) engaged in relief operations. He commended their dedicated service. During the visit, he also held meetings with central and Punjab state officials to coordinate relief efforts.
