Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan announced that Indian cricket icon MS Dhoni has confirmed his participation in the #IPL2026 season. “MS has told us he will be available for the next season,” Viswanathan told Cricbuzz. He added to IANS, “He is likely to play, that is the current status. We have a feeling he will play in this upcoming IPL.”
If Dhoni takes the field in 2026, it will mark his 19th #IPL campaign and 17th with CSK, having briefly played for Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017 during CSK’s suspension. The 44-year-old, who joined CSK in the IPL’s inaugural 2008 season, has been the face of the franchise ever since.

Dhoni captained CSK from 2008 to 2023 (except during the suspension years), leading them to five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) and nine finals, tying with Rohit Sharma as the joint-most successful IPL captain. He made a surprise return to captaincy in 2024 after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s elbow injury but couldn’t prevent CSK from finishing at the bottom with only four wins in 14 matches.
The veteran wicketkeeper-batter, who retired from international cricket in 2020, has played 248 matches for CSK, scoring 4,865 runs, and holds the record as the most capped IPL player with 278 matches and 5,439 runs overall.
