The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), continuing its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Panchayat Secretary Gurjant Singh, posted at the BDPO Office, Bhunerheri, Patiala, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.

Disclosing the details today, a spokesperson for the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by a resident of Village Bhatian, Patiala.

According to the complaint, the Gram Panchayat had passed resolutions for the renovation and construction of a local Dharamshala and Community Hall. The Panchayat Secretary allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant to process the resolutions and initiate further action on the proposed development works.

The accused allegedly told the complainant that a portion of the bribe amount would be distributed among the Panches of the Gram Panchayat in exchange for obtaining their signatures on the resolutions.
