117 Family and Cheque Bounce Disputes Settled Amicably
Patiala, September 13
The National Lok Adalat, addressing all case categories except non-compoundable criminal matters, was successfully conducted across Patiala district on September 13, 2025. Organized under the leadership of Ms. Harinder Sidhu, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and supervised by Sh. Harjeet Singh, Additional District & Sessions Judge, the event saw significant participation and resolutions.
A total of 47 benches were established across the district: 28 in Patiala, six in Rajpura, five in Nabha, and six in Samana. Specialized benches were set up, including one in the Revenue Court, Patiala, for mutation and partition cases, and another at the Women Cell, Patiala, to resolve matrimonial disputes through mutual agreement prior to registration.
Out of 36,230 cases taken up, 19,247 were resolved amicably through compromise, with a total settlement amount of ₹77.78 crore.

Sh. Harjeet Singh, along with Ms. Amandeep Kamboj, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA Patiala, and Ms. Ekta Sahota, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Patiala, visited the benches, encouraging litigants to opt for amicable resolutions. Sh. Harjeet Singh emphasized the advantages of Lok Adalats, noting that their awards are final, binding, and non-appealable, with court fees refunded to litigants. He highlighted that Lok Adalats deliver swift, cost-effective justice, reduce case backlogs, foster harmony through compromise, and save time and money while minimizing disputes between parties.
A significant achievement was the resolution of 117 family disputes and cheque bounce cases, involving a settlement amount of ₹1.70 crore.
