• PEDA Aims to Add 20 MW of Solar Power Through Rooftop PV Installations on Government Buildings in FY 2025-26 , Says Minister Aman Arora

In a major step towards decarbonizing the power sector and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources, the Punjab government has successfully installed rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on 4,474 government buildings . Additionally, the state has set an ambitious target to add 20 MW of solar power capacity by installing more rooftop solar PV systems on government buildings during the financial year 2025-26 .
Sharing this update, Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister, Mr. Aman Arora , stated that as of December 2024, rooftop solar PV panels with a cumulative capacity of 34 MW have already been installed across 4,474 government buildings in the state. These installations are generating over 4.9 crore units of electricity annually , contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy goals.

Benefits of Rooftop Solar PV Systems
Minister Arora highlighted that these grid-connected rooftop solar PV systems generate electricity directly at the consumer point, helping to minimize network losses in power distribution. The electricity produced not only bridges the demand-supply gap but also enables the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets as mandated by the Electricity Regulatory Commissions.
The grid-connected systems produce electricity during daylight hours and feed any excess power back into the grid, ensuring efficient utilization of renewable energy resources.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann , the Punjab government has been actively working to strengthen the state’s clean energy infrastructure.
