Initiative Targets Improved Mental Health Support for Inmates

Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today revealed a key initiative to strengthen mental healthcare in the state’s prisons. He announced that approval has been given to appoint 60 Psychologist Counselors to serve across Punjab’s jails.
In a statement released today, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the AAP-led Punjab Government’s focus on inmate welfare. “This step reflects our commitment to offering holistic support to those in the prison system, with a special emphasis on mental health care,” he noted.

Providing more details, Minister Cheema stated that the Jails Department will manage the recruitment of these 60 Psychologist Counselors through a fully transparent outsourcing process. He added that this effort is designed to boost psychological assistance for inmates, playing a critical role in their rehabilitation and overall health.
