Chandigarh, October 28
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Inspector Shubham, posted at Zone-B of the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000.
Disclosing this on Wednesday, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of Ajit Nagar, Ludhiana.
According to the spokesperson, the complainant alleged that following his father’s death, he and his brothers had submitted documents to the Municipal Corporation’s Zone-B office in Ludhiana for the transfer of their ancestral property into their names. The documents were marked to Inspector Shubham for further processing.
The complainant alleged that the inspector demanded ₹25,000 as a bribe to facilitate the transfer of the ancestral property in the names of the complainant and his brothers.
Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Ludhiana Range and reported the matter.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. During the operation, Inspector Shubham was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹25,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Ludhiana. Further investigation into the case is underway.
The Vigilance Bureau reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against corruption and urged people to report any demand for bribes by public officials.
