Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests PSPCL Junior Engineer Caught Accepting ₹15,000 Bribe

In a continued crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Baljit Singh, a Junior Engineer (JE) at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Sub-station, Kandhala Jattan, Hoshiarpur district, on Friday while he was caught red-handed accepting a ₹15,000 bribe.

Case Details

According to an official VB spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Sikri village, Hoshiarpur district. The complainant alleged that JE Baljit Singh demanded ₹20,000 to install a new transformer to address the village’s power supply load issues. After negotiations, the JE agreed to accept ₹15,000 as a bribe.

Operation and Arrest

Following verification of the complaint, a VB team from the Jalandhar Range set up a trap and apprehended Baljit Singh while he was accepting the ₹15,000 bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range.

Next Steps

The accused JE is scheduled to be presented in a competent court on July 5, 2025. Further investigations are underway to probe the matter thoroughly.
