Chandigarh, May 21
Continuing its crackdown against corruption across the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Davinder Pal Singh, Reader to the District Revenue Officer (DRO), Moga, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The accused was caught red-handed during a trap operation conducted by the VB team.
Sharing details, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the action was taken following a complaint filed by a resident of village Chak Kanian Khurd in Dharamkot tehsil of Moga district.

According to the complaint, the complainant’s son had a pending land partition case involving 13 acres before the DRO court in Moga. The accused Reader allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh to ensure an early settlement of the case within five to six months. He reportedly asked for Rs 50,000 as an advance payment and the remaining amount after the final decision of the case. The complainant had also recorded the conversation related to the bribery demand.
Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau unit in Moga. Acting swiftly, the VB team laid a trap and apprehended the accused while he was accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Ferozepur. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
