Vigilance Bureau Arrests Two SDOs, a Clerk Red-Handed While Accepting Rs 10,000 Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested SDO Jaskanwerpreet Singh, SDO Shruti Sharma, and Clerk Ashu, posted at the PSPCL office in Ludhiana, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 red-handed.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused were arrested following a complaint filed by Prince Nijhawan.

The spokesperson further stated that the complainant is engaged in the business of installing solar systems. He had installed two solar systems at separate locations, which were to be inspected by PSPCL before the installation of meters. In connection with the preparation of inspection and estimate reports, the accused officials allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 per file, totaling Rs 20,000 for both files.

Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the VB Economic Offences Wing in Ludhiana. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, the Vigilance team laid a trap and apprehended the accused red-handed while they were accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB Economic Offences Wing, Ludhiana. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
