Women Power in Uniform: Nisha Becomes Indian Navy Officer
Chandigarh/Patiala, May 29
Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls, SAS Nagar (Mohali), has added another feather to its cap as its alumna Nisha has been commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in the Indian Navy. She successfully graduated from the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala, bringing pride to her institute, family, and the state of Punjab.
Nisha was commissioned during an impressive Passing Out Parade reviewed by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.

Commissioned into the Education Branch of the Indian Navy, Sub Lieutenant Nisha is the daughter of Dinesh Chander, a Senior Assistant at Punjabi University, Patiala.
Congratulating Nisha on her achievement, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora said that her success would inspire many young women across Punjab to pursue careers in the armed forces. He reiterated the commitment of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government to support aspiring women officers and strengthen opportunities in defence services.
The minister also highlighted that the Punjab Government established an NDA Preparatory Wing for Girls at Mai Bhago AFPI in July 2023, with its third batch currently undergoing training.
Expressing his happiness over the achievement, Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd.), Director of Mai Bhago AFPI, said that Nisha’s commissioning is a proud milestone and will further motivate more girls to join the armed forces. He extended his best wishes to the newly commissioned officer for a successful and distinguished career in the Indian Navy.
